I. Cedar River Stabilization Project
The Cedar River Stabilization Project was formed by a group of concerned landowners, covering more than 100 miles along the Cedar River, running through five (5) counties and six (6) communities.
An initial meeting was held in March 2000 to gather landowners feelings on the project. Over 60 people attended and wished for the continuation of the project.
Current partners include 100 land users, 2 local entities, 7 regional entities, 3 state entities, and 3 federal entities.
Has a strong information and education program, including a monthly newsletter, monthly planning meetings, presentations, and demonstrations.
Held a Stream Workshop with nearly 50 people attending. Partners included: Nebraska Game & Parks Commission,
Nebraska Wildlife Federation, US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Natural
Resources Conservation Service. The group plans to hold a second workshop in
January or February of 2002.
A steering committee of 13 landowners and 8 advisory
members has been formed. The committee meets monthly to discuss future
actions of the group.
Several stream assessments have been performed on the
Cedar River.
A US Army Corps of Engineers 404 General Permit
application has been submitted.
